The Strathmore Woollen Company
Strathmore Woollen Company is one of Scotland’s leading suppliers of premium tartan fabric. Our reputation is synonymous with first class quality & service.
We are a small family owned business, originally founded in 1949 as a joint venture between Don Brothers, Buist & Company of Forfar, and Ballantynes of Peebles. The then Sales Director David Cowley headed a management buyout in 1983, and further developed the Strathmore business over the next 35 years, developing the range to the 400+ tartans we have today, all in 100% wool. David remains a director today.
MORE RECENT CHANGES
Ownership of the business transferred in 2018 to Christine Donaldson, who has worked within the Scottish textile industry for over 30 years.
“I am passionate about textiles and the protection of such a key part of our national heritage. We procure premium quality tartan fabrics, all woven by our exclusive weaver, to our own specifications & in our own yarns. We are proud of the 1st class service we offer to our customers around the 39 countries we export to. We regard all our customers as part of the Strathmore family. Along with our 400 tartan fabrics, we offer a made to measure service for items made in our tartans, including kilts, skirts, gents trousers, and a wide range of accessories.
